When Coraline moves to an old house, she feels bored and neglected by her parents. She finds a hidden door with a bricked up passage. During the night, she crosses the passage and finds a parallel world where everybody has buttons instead of eyes, with caring parents and all her dreams coming true. When the Other Mother invites Coraline to stay in her world forever, the girl refuses and finds that the alternate reality where she is trapped is only a trick to lure her.
My review for the book.
REVIEW:
I definitely liked the book better. Let me get that right out of the way.
The film was definitely geared more for children than the book, which I thought could have been YA with the dark content. The film had the dark nature, but done in such a way that it wasn't as scary. There was a couple of musical numbers in the movie, how on Earth can that be scary?!
I still thought it was cute. If I was ten, I would have loved it even more.
It was just like the book for the most part, just portrayed more juvenilely.
I will say without a doubt that the book is better and that's what I will recommend.

I haven't seen the movie or read the book but I'd like to do both.
ReplyDeleteYes, the book does have the darker element to it. Must say I loved the mini knitted clothing and mini things in general in the animated film.
