April Monthly News

Welcome to the April edition of the monthly news!   We start off April under lockdown. Again. Had a great-niece born. Serenity. Haven't been able to meet her yet though. She's small and we have big germs. It's bittersweet, y'know. Easter was lonely. It was just the hubby and I. Slightly depressing... Then the hubby's birthday happened. Again, only us. I made a steak dinner, a birthday cake, and we watched a movie that he wanted to see. It was a good day! The rest of the month was pretty uneventful.  What about you? Q:   What are some common tropes you've seen in a genre you like to read? Are there any books that you've read that reverse or change those tropes? A: First of all, I had to look up what the heck a trope is and do I have any? To be fair, I'm still baffled. I like irony, so yeah, I imagine I have tropes. Do not even expect me to list what they could possible be. **

The Hunger Angels by Jason Miller (15)

ASIN:  B01FQQPBQU Publisher:  Harper Paperbacks (July 26, 2016) Kindle:  935 KB Print:  67 pages AMAZON On a rainy night in Little Egypt, Jeep Mabry shows up on Slim’s doorstep with an old mining colleague to interrupt Slim and Anci’s Scrabble game, bringing more trouble than just misspelled words.  Snake Dornan, a nickname he earned with particularly slippery schemes, bought up a few nearby houses in foreclosure, and rented one to Lizzie and Tony Meeks, by appearances a nice, young married couple. However, when he visits the house, the windows are broken, the yard is full of bikes and bikers, and there’s a telling smell of rotten eggs in the air. In order to evict them from his house, Snake needs Slim and Jeep’s help. All they need to do is deliver a letter of intent and a copy of the original lease to a group of heavily armed, meth running bikers. Should be easy, right? This Slim in Little Egypt short story bridges the gap between Down Don’t Bother Me and Red Dog, and also includes a
