Stardust by Neil Gaiman (With #Giveaway) (76)

  • Paperback: 288 pages
  • Publisher: HarperCollins; Reprint edition (2016)
  • ISBN: 9780061689246

Catch a fallen star . . .
Tristran Thorn promised to bring back a fallen star. So he sets out on a journey to fulfill the request of his beloved, the hauntingly beautiful Victoria Forester—and stumbles into the enchanted realm that lies beyond the wall of his English country town. Rich with adventure and magic, Stardust is one of master storyteller Neil Gaiman's most beloved tales, and the inspiration for the hit movie.

He makes things up and writes them down. Which takes us from comics, (like SANDMAN) to novels, (like ANANSI BOYS and AMERICAN GODS) to short stories, (some are collected in SMOKE AND MIRRORS) and to occasionally movies, (like Dave McKean's MIRRORMASK or the NEVERWHERE TV series, or his own short film, A SHORT FILM ABOUT JOHN BOLTON).
In his spare time he reads, sleep, eats and tries to keep the blog at www.neilgaiman.com more or less up to date.

REVIEW:
Incredible.
I was there. In Wall. Watching this story unfold from the sidelines.
At least that is how I felt. Like I was in the moment. Scary, exciting moment that is was. And by moment, I mean book.
Faeries, witches, and even things you can't explain, became an essential element to the fantasy. This world. The politics. The characters. All were strong.
Neil Gaiman is a master storyteller, in my opinion. He knows how to put you there. Even in something you could never otherwise fathom. He brings strong characters to you, with a plot that has you digging in deep. Then he ties it up at the end with a perfect cherry on top. I can't wait to read more from him!
I also plan on watching the film adaption soon. I know I have seen it before, but it might be different for me this time around having read the book.

Heartless by Marissa Meyer (75)

Long before she was the terror of Wonderland—the infamous Queen of Hearts—she was just a girl who wanted to fall in love.

Long before she was the terror of Wonderland, she was just a girl who wanted to fall in love. Catherine may be one of the most desired girls in Wonderland, and a favorite of the unmarried King of Hearts, but her interests lie elsewhere. A talented baker, all she wants is to open a shop with her best friend. But according to her mother, such a goal is unthinkable for the young woman who could be the next queen.
Then Cath meets Jest, the handsome and mysterious court joker. For the first time, she feels the pull of true attraction. At the risk of offending the king and infuriating her parents, she and Jest enter into an intense, secret courtship. Cath is determined to define her own destiny and fall in love on her terms. But in a land thriving with magic, madness, and monsters, fate has other plans.
In her first stand-alone teen novel, the New York Times-bestselling author dazzles us with a prequel to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

REVIEW:
I wanted more.
Sad, but true.
I'm left feeling like the end was the best part, and all the rest leading up to it kinda fell flat for me. Let me clarify though, this is still a good read. Just not what I thought it would be.
I wanted to read a story about the Queen of Hearts, and while it was, it was actually more of a love story for most of it. Not what I wanted at all. She may have been the Queen of Hearts, but she was far from lovable in the original. To have a retelling with her so sweet it made my teeth hurt.
Still, the love story drew me in and was well-written in typical Meyer fashion.
Was it the best Wonderland adaption I've read? No, but it was good. The world she drew fell between the olden days and a mystical, magical land that we know Wonderland to be. The characters were just like in the original Wonderland story, though maybe a bit more vividly.
All in all, I would read another if it came out. Just putting that out there...
Fans of Marissa Meyer best make sure not to go in expecting too much. Not every story can be a five star story, so remember that.

Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates

Hard-partying brothers Mike (Adam DeVine) and Dave (Zac Efron) place an online ad to find the perfect dates (Anna Kendrick, Aubrey Plaza) for their sister’s Hawaiian wedding. Hoping for a wild getaway, the boys instead find themselves out-hustled by the uncontrollable duo.

REVIEW:
Better than I expected it to be.
I thought it was going to be on the lame side, but decided to give it a try anyways. I'm so glad I did too. It had me and my husband in stitches and laughing throughout.
Mike & Dave are typical young guys. The maker of the movie, script writer, casting director, they all did their jobs well. These two played the perfect Mike & Dave. Young, kinda dumb and ready to sow their oats, these two were put on blast by their parents and ordered to get dates so they don't ruin their sister's wedding.
Did they succeed? Watch the film to find out.
Will you enjoy it? More than you think while reading this recommendation.

Delilah by Angela Hunt (74)

Life is not easy in Philistia, especially not for a woman and child alone. When beautiful, wounded Delilah finds herself begging for food to survive, she resolves that she will find a way to defeat all the men who have taken advantage of her. She will overcome the roadblocks life has set before her, and she will find riches and victory for herself.

When she meets a legendary man called Samson, she senses that in him lies the means for her victory. By winning, seducing, and betraying the hero of the Hebrews, she will attain a position of national prominence. After all, she is beautiful, she is charming, and she is smart. No man, not even a supernaturally gifted strongman, can best her in a war of wits.

My review for The Fine Art of Insincerity

Christy-Award winner Angela Hunt writes for readers who have learned to expect the unexpected in novels from this versatile author. With over four million copies of her books sold worldwide, she is the best-selling author of more than 100 works ranging from picture books (The Tale of Three Trees) to novels.

Now that her two children are grown, Angie and her youth-pastor husband live in Florida with Very Big Dogs (a direct result of watching Sandlot too many times). This affinity for mastiffs has not been without its rewards--one of their dogs was featured on Live with Regis and Kelly as the second-largest canine in America. Their dog received this dubious honor after an all-expenses-paid trip to Manhattan for the dog and the Hunts, complete with VIP air travel and a stretch limo in which they toured New York City. Afterward, the dog gave out paw-tographs at the airport.

When she's not home writing, Angie often travels to teach writing workshops at schools and writers' conferences. And to talk about her dogs, of course.

Readers may visit her web site at www.angelahuntbooks.com.

REVIEW:
What's a girl to do?!
Everyone thinks Delilah is a traitor. She turns Samson in, and apparently didn't bat an eyelash... or did she?
This story plays a nice picture for what may or may not have happened between Samson and Delilah. We see a friendship and love story unfold, and then they are separated. The journey before, during and after are so enthralling, that I took my time reading it all and getting a vivid idea of what it must have been like.
I'm intrigued by the looming too. In the story, Delilah uses a loom, and some of the clothes she makes I would love to see. They sound very ornate for the time period.
Still, this was a fantastic book and an author I will definitely read again.

Find Some Holiday Gifts At Groupon

**This is a sponsored post. All opinions are owned by Freda's Voice.

I have the hardest time deciding what to stuff in stockings or put under the tree. My son and my husband are kind of picky. One minute they are into something for gamers, the next it's sports related. So I head to Groupon and see what deals I can find.

Right away, I saw an athletic present for my son, and a nifty jewelry case for my husband. I could picture my son spending hours jumping on the mini trampoline. Although, he would probably use it to learn how to jump higher while playing basketball with his friends. My husband has much jewelry, with watches scattered throughout his dresser drawer. This storage case is not only elegantly designed, but it would eliminate the clutter that drives me wild. The price is ridiculously good too, enough, that it is hard to pass up.

Let's see what other Groupon Goods I can find...

Clothing is also always a great choice. Both of them love t-shirts, even in the winter. So a personalized shirt is a wonderful idea. Something sports related for my sports-minded son, and a nice Polo-style shirt for my husband. I love that his initials would be on it. For the price, it feels like a steal-deal!!

I kept looking around and found some other goodies. These are great for little kids or pets.

My son would have freaked right out on Christmas morning if he had seen this as a little one. The price is so cheap in comparison to other shops. I wish they had these around when he was small.
The pet cover for the car is a great idea too. Fido might not understand why he is getting a car seat cover versus a bone, but they protect your car seats and interior from pet hair and dirt. This is the cheapest price I have seen yet, so better grab them while you can! As you can see, over 110 have sold already!

So be sure to check out Groupon. They will probably have the perfect gift at the perfect price. Also check out Groupon on Facebook and Twitter.
