Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter (38)

Sisters. Strangers. Survivors.

More than twenty years ago, Claire and Lydia’s teenaged sister Julia vanished without a trace. The two women have not spoken since, and now their lives could not be more different. Claire is the glamorous trophy wife of an Atlanta millionaire. Lydia, a single mother, dates an ex-con and struggles to make ends meet. But neither has recovered from the horror and heartbreak of their shared loss—a devastating wound that's cruelly ripped open when Claire's husband is killed.

The disappearance of a teenage girl and the murder of a middle-aged man, almost a quarter-century apart: what could connect them? Forming a wary truce, the surviving sisters look to the past to find the truth, unearthing the secrets that destroyed their family all those years ago . . . and uncovering the possibility of redemption, and revenge, where they least expect it.

REVIEW:
Should definitely be book of the year!
This intensely gripping novel is one thriller I won't soon forget. Seriously on the nights that I have to spend alone, this book will come creeping its way back into my thoughts. So vivid it could actually happen. That's a chilling thought.
Lydia is a bad-ass chick and I really connected with her, though Claire, her sister, is the protagonist. The story also flips to the fathers' perspective, and it is needed in the story for you to gain the real focus and feel of it all.
I plan on telling everyone about this book, starting with you all, of course. It is one of the best thrillers I have read ever, and I have read a lot. I flew through this almost 600 page story too, so you know it's wicked good.
Get a copy, and get it read today. You won't regret it.

  1. Oh Freda, this book sounds like my cup of tea, I do like a thriller upon occasion. I wonder if the author's name is really Slaughter, perfect name. Thanks for the info you left me in a comment on my blog, about how to do Friday 56 correctly. I HOPE to do it right next time.

  2. Glad to hear it really flies by with the 600 pages. Do you have time to take a breath, or on the edge of your seat for all of it?!?

REVIEW:
Such great animation!
There was always something going on in this movie. Even though it was a story I have seen played out a million times and a million different ways, they all are different too. This had more of a story. It was very magical and is definitely fun for the whole family.
Want to point out, Max, the dog, stole the show for me. He is so adorable, even if animation. Such a good dog.
This is one of those Christmas movies that you really can enjoy all year round. It has enough laughs, fun and morals to be played anytime. Plus there is nothing wrong with Christmas cheer in February.
