January Monthly News

Welcome to the January 2015 edition of monthly news!
I started a memory box at the beginning of the year. I only have two fortune cookie fortunes inside it currently. Yeah, I lead a boring existence.
Have you done anything new?
On the review front, there is a company that I have wanted to work with for about 4 years now, and couldn't for one reason or another. Then, as luck would have it, they contacted me to review for them. I was am stoked! Watch for my eShakti review coming next month!
Now onto the happenings for this month....

#ValentinesDayReads #Giveaway

Dear  Reader,

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! The crisp, cool air feels a little sweeter and stores are filling their shelves with greeting cards and candies. But instead of sharing the usual gifts, the way to someone’s heart can be through a story (and maybe a little bit of chocolate). Hachette Book Group is offering a “Give Books, Not Roses” Valentine’s Day giveaway for those of you who want to express your admiration for friends, family, and loved ones.

Love Gently Falling written by Melody Carlson is a romantic novella about the power of Valentine’s Day and how one woman discovers love while at the same time saving her family’s business. Successful hairstylist to the stars Rita Jensen returns to her hometown in Chicago after receiving news that her mother has suffered a stroke. Though Rita must come up with a plan to save her mother’s salon, the oncoming holiday and her undeniable feelings for an old classmate become quite a distraction.

Keys of Heaven is the second book in Adina Senft’s Healing Grace trilogy. Amish widow Sarah Yoder helps her community by creating teas and tinctures from the herbs she grows. She struggles to find love with an Amish man, and she doesn’t know what to do about her attraction to her friend Henry Byler, who has turned away from her beliefs. Sarah’s story will show anyone that romantic love is not the only love that matters.

Valentine’s Day is an internationally celebrated day of romance, dating back to the 5th Century. But today, love touches our lives in so many different ways. Whether you are dedicating the day to your good friends or your life partner, treat them to these wonderful stories of courage, kindness, and love.

Sincerely,

Christina Boys

Editor of LOVE GENTLY FALLING and KEYS OF HEAVEN

Rita Jansen is living her dream in Hollywood when her father calls with news that her mother is sick. When she gets home to Chicago, Rita finds her mother is facing a long recovery and could lose the family-owned salon. As Rita takes her mother's place at work, she also finds herself renewing a friendship with her classmate Johnny and is surprised by how far he will go to help her.

Sarah Yoder is learning to help the people in her Amish community as a Dokterfraa, creating teas and tinctures from the herbs she grows. But her latest patient seems to have a problem that can't be resolved. Meanwhile, Sarah's relatives attempt a little matchmaking between her and a new visitor. This is the second book in the Healing Grace series (the first, Herb of Grace, received a 4 stars from RT Book Reviews!).

You could win both of these books and this chocolate bar,
Chocolate is from Olive & Sinclair in Nashville

Good luck!

Did You Catch Stella & Dot On Undercover Boss?

Did you catch Stella & Dot on Undercover Boss last night? It was a great episode and if you missed it, you can check it out on CBS

All of the employee's who were featured had such wonderful attitudes and really loved working for Stella & Dot. I really enjoyed watching Jessica (the CEO and Founder) attend a trunk show with a Stylist. It provided a glimpse at how fun and rewarding it can be to be a part of the Stella & Dot team. I won't give away any spoilers but I will say that after watching the episode, you will want to join Stella & Dot's amazing team as a Stylist! "Which would you prefer?" He gave her an impish grin.

His first novel is "The Brightest Moon of the Century," and his second, "Love At Absolute Zero."

REVIEW:
A fantastic whodunit!
I really like Patton. He's the character that gets the job done. If it wasn't for Patton, there'd really be no story. He is literally both the cause and effect.
Reading along trying to piece together the story was fun. I thought I had it a couple of times, only to find I was dead wrong. I'm quite impressed with the mind-bending ending. I expected it once, then was thrown way off, so when things really did happen I was in aw and thrilled.
Great writing for such a small story, especially to have the impact that it did. Mystery lovers will devour this one in a couple of hours, tops!

#7: Casual Friday - Shane Kuhn

Casual Friday is the story of hit man John Lago’s very first assignment as a recruit with Human Resources, Inc., a placement agency that sends assassins, disguised as interns, to take out high-level targets under cover of corporate invisibility. John will go on to become the most successful “intern” in HR’s history. You can read more about his career in The Intern’s Handbook, a full-length thriller that will be published on April 8, 2014.

The Intern's Handbook will be touring Freda's Voice in February!

READ IT FOR FREE!

AUTHOR BIO:
Shane Kuhn is a writer, director, and producer working in the entertainment business and advertising. He is one of the original cofounders of the Slamdance Film Festival and he’s currently developing a novella and television series about a highly sophisticated international heist ring for the European market. He lives and works in Colorado, Los Angeles, and the Bay Area. He is the author of The Intern’s Handbook, bought for film by Sony Pictures, and Hostile Takeover.

REVIEW:
For the most part, I liked it.
I hated the ending though. With a passion.
I was enjoying the flow of the story. John Lago is quite the character, and he introduces the reader to a world we wouldn't otherwise know anything about. I liked how this story was a twisted take on that world. That definitely appealed to me as a reader.
At the end, I think the author was going for dramatic. It didn't work for me though. I said out loud, 'That's it?!'. Then I shook my head a few times. Yup.
I hope The Intern's Handbook picks up where Casual Friday abruptly left off.

Blasting About: Devon's Choice (With #Giveaway)

Freda's Voice is happy to be part of the book blast tour for, Devon's Choice. Be sure to read to the end for a great giveaway! Good luck!

devon's choiceDevon's Choice

Life holds no surprises for Devon Murphy. Her life consists of keeping tabs on her aging Irish father, working part time at a coffee shop, and building her online graphics design business. Devon’s only tricky situation is a shallow relationship with the pampered and affluent Michael Turner, who sees her as just another woman to conquer.

Following his father’s death, Brandon’s only goal is to expand the family business and live life on his own terms. That is, until he walks into the coffee shop one snowy evening and meets the enchanting, red-haired barista behind the counter. But can Devon and Brandon’s attraction for each other be strong enough to help erase their deepest disappointments and renew their faith in God?

Excerpt:

Brandon looked over at her neutral expression. Whatever kind of relationship she had with Michael Turner didn’t seem to be making her happy. At that moment, all he wanted to do was to make her forget all about the jerk.

As if sensing him watching her, Devon turned her head enough to make eye contact with him. The faint, milky glow from the streetlight showed enough of her features for him to see a soft blush warm her cheeks. Under her dark lashes, he watched her sea green eyes glint invitingly as her soft lips turned up at the corners. In that moment, his resolve to keep the date on a friendly level came crashing down.

I grew up in Ohio where I currently live with my husband and our two rescue Labradors. Some of my favorite things include reading, shopping, pepperoni pizza, Hershey bars and hanging out with my two grown sons. I also love dogs; so going to the dog park is cheap entertainment for my husband and I!

Growing up an only child, I had many imaginary friends. I believe this - and a love of books - fueled my desire to write. It was many years later that my dream of becoming a published author came true.

I’m grateful to God for always keeping a story in my heart and hope you are blessed and entertained by my book.

REVIEW:
So much fun!
What an awesome soundtrack too! I found myself singing along right from the beginning.
I really liked how this film gently explains to young minds about death and dying. The explanation given was fantastic. Usually kids wouldn't understand, but this film had a clever way of reasoning and reassuring the child. I loved how it all went down.
Parents will enjoy this movie but it really is for the kids, aged 6-12.
