We live with ghosts. We live with thugs, dodgers, punkers, needle ladies, pork knuckle. We live where there's no place else to go. We live with birds--a pair of magpies in the old hospital turrets, a fat yellow-beaked grebe in the thick sticks of the plane trees. A man named Sebastian has moved into the Kiez from France. My mother's got an eye on him.

I've had this one on my list for a while, because my son lived in Berlin for several years and photographed the art on the walls at the 20th anniversary of the wall coming down. I like the idea of these kids trying to connect, despite the wall between them.
ReplyDeleteI love the picture you chose. Looks like a great book too.
ReplyDeleteGermany! Are you in Germany until Christmas? How fun!
ReplyDeleteI read this book last year and found it confusing. I wish it had been written in a more straight forward fashion. What do you think?
LOL... I'm only in Germany with the story. I wish I was there for real.
DeleteI am not loving it, but it has its' good points too.
Ooh! I have this one on my tbr pile! Enjoy!

Happy 5 year old Meme Birthday! Are you really in Germany? I don't know much about Instagram. So, my Friday 56 might not appear in the right place. Well, what does Sebastian look like?? That is a beautiful description about the birds and all.
ReplyDeleteI'm only in Germany in the story. :-)

This book has to do with the Berlin Wall, right? Sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your five-year Friday 56 anniversary, and thank you for hosting. I've enjoyed participating.

I LOVE the instagram!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 5 years! I loved Berlin! I was there the summer before my senior year in high school. The wall came down 1 1/2 years later. I've added this to my TBR. But I have to say I've now read the comments and am kind of worried this book won't live up to my expectations.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry.
DeleteWhat is good for some, may not be for others, that is true. But how will you know which one you are if you don't read it?
:-)
Wait ... you're in Germany?
ReplyDeleteOnly in story.
DeleteI rally should've read through the comments .... heehee
