A washed up actor, who once played an iconic superhero, battles his ego and attempts to recover his family, his career and himself in the days leading up to the opening of a Broadway play.
REVIEW:
Here is the one person that didn't like it.
It's me. I just didn't enjoy it or get it, frankly. I also don't get how this film stole all the awards' nominations at the Oscars. I get it was a sophisticated story, but maybe too sophisticated for me. I felt the degrees of separation were just too far for my tastes. It was so hard to decipher what was real and what was fantasy. Was he crazy, suicidal or both? I feel like I will never know.
In the end, I feel like this is two hours of my life I can't get back.

I'm one of those people that loved Birdman. As a writer, I could identify with the idea of being more true to yourself in your art than in real life, and that when you try to please an audience you end up being invisible. I think artists of all sorts will recognize themselves in the film.
ReplyDeletehaven't seen this; sounds interesting
ReplyDeleteWe thought Keaton was excellent, but did not like the movie either.
ReplyDeleteThanks forcyourcreview. I didn't realize it wavered into fantasy, I thought it was about going back to his glory days. But I am a big Michael Keaton fan, so I'll still try once it's free.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your true thoughts about this movie. The premise of it sounds a bit depressing. I would see it for Michael Keaton's performance.
ReplyDeleteYou're not the only one! I didn't like this either. I just didn't get it, which was really frustrating and depressing. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
