#Recipe: Peanut Butter Bars

These delicious bad boys didn't last long in my house. Best part is, they are super easy to make.

Peanut Butter Bars

INGREDIENTS
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies
  • 3 tbsps butter/margarine
  • 1 package of large marshmallows
  • 1 package of milk chocolate chips
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • butter spray

METHOD
In a medium pot over lower heat, melt butter. Add all of the marshmallows and melt completely. Make sure to keep stirring so it doesn't stick or burn. Add peanut butter and keep stirring. Add to a large bowl filled with the Rice Krispies. Mix well but try not to bust all the Krispies. Also try to be quick so it stay warm and pliable. When blended, add to a sprayed pan and flatten. In a small saucepan melt the entire package of chocolate chips. When melted, pour onto pan mixture and even out best you can. Chill for at least one hour before serving.

Makes 12-16 squares, depending on how you cut them.

EVEN TRUE LOVE CANNOT ESCAPE PURE EVIL

Pleased to Meet You: A Look at the Film’s Stars

Get the Blu-ray™ and DVD Combo Pack on April 29

After a mysterious night on their honeymoon, Zach and Samantha McCall (Zach Gilford, Allison Miller) find themselves dealing with an earlier-than-planned pregnancy. While recording everything on video for posterity, Zach begins to notice odd behavior in his wife that they initially attribute to nerves, but it soon becomes evident the disturbing changes to Samantha’s body and mind have a much more sinister origin. Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, part of the quartet of filmmakers known as Radio Silence (V/H/S), and produced by John Davis (Chronicle), Devil’s Due utilizes a found footage-style of storytelling to deliver an emotional, character-driven thriller that showcases supernatural scares, and disquieting dread.

In celebration of Devil’s Due Blu-ray™ and DVD’s release, we present to you a look at the film’s stars.

Zach Gilford – Zach

Zach Gilford is the handsome boy next door best known for playing Matt Saracen on NBC’s popular TV show, Friday Night Lights. Most of his roles had set him in a good guy persona, and he hopes to one day land a role outside that category. This summer, he will appear alongside his real-life wife Kiele Sanchez in The Purge: Anarchy. In Devil’s Due, Gilford plays Zach, a newlywed who is determined to videotape his new wife’s pregnancy and, later, figure out who and what is behind her abnormal symptoms.

Allison MillerSamantha

Allison Miller is best known for playing Princess Michelle Benjamin on the television drama series Kings. Miller is a talented young actress and can apparently sing really well! She is married to comedian and actor Adam Nee and is set to appear in a romantic comedy alongside Katey Segal, Brittany Snow, and James Wolk called There’s Always Woodstock. Allison Miller plays Samantha McCall, wife to Zach Gilford’s character in Devil’s Due. Samantha deals with a very emotional and horrific pregnancy after a cult performs a ritual on her and her husband while they are on their honeymoon in the Dominican Republic.

Devil’s Due will be available on Blu-ray™ and DVD Combo Pack on April 29, 2014 from Twentieth Century Fox Entertainment.

Blasting About: Scents and Sensibility (With #Giveaway)

Scents and Senses: Supernatural Friends. What the fairy tales didn’t tell you

Playing the role of a knight in shining armor is more complicated than it seems in the storybooks, as sixteen-year-old Joy discovers when she repeatedly comes to the rescue of a fifteen-year-old human. But when she meddles in the girl’s social life, Starra sends her packing.

Starra is determined to completely dissociate herself from the subterranean creature that has manipulated her life and cast her into the limelight. However, her resolve is soon tested when she becomes involved in a critical situation where supernatural assistance can enable her to carry out a daring plot.

Eventually, Starra’s involvement with her new other-wordly friends extracts a heavy price when she is beset by challenges that range from the down- to-earth struggles of a typical teenage student, to the realm of the fantastic. Nothing prepares her, however, for the ultimate challenge.

Excerpt
Joy

Ever since I’ve been old enough to kick off on a condor with my own two chicken feet, I’ve been drilled to mind my own business.

Mind your own business, the first of the American Ten Commandments.

It’s not one I subscribe to, even though in our community, not minding my own business means more than social suicide; it’s a crime when we ascend above ground.

For thousands of years we deeems have kept away from the creatures running over our heads with their five-toed feet. So if anyone in my community gets wind of the risky job I’m on these days, I’m practically a goner. But that doesn’t stop me from shadowing a certain teenage fivetoe.

There’s also a totally different occupational hazard involved in this position I’ve created for myself, one I’m suffering from right now: this job occasionally makes school seem relatively stimulating. Yawn. I’ve played too many Angry Condor games to count since Starra got involved in some fantasy book a couple of hours ago and lost contact with the real world. Even if I knew how to become visible to the fivetoe eye and suddenly revealed myself, I bet she wouldn’t notice me, the cute teen perched on her windowsill.

Time simply refuses to advance, and I have to resort to counting the spider eggs cocooned in their nest on a nearby tree branch. A sudden sigh interrupts my lame occupation. There’s a starry look in the big eyes, and I notice the novel is slipping out of Starra’s dreamy grip. This is my window of opportunity! I finger the starchy edge of the book jacket and coax the book forward.

Thud. The book falls to the floor, and the movement seems to bring Starra back to her senses. At last she grabs a hoodie and sets out, probably for one of her night excursions on the Vista Del Mar Path. Are we running or biking tonight?

Running it is. I jog behind her, finding the excursion by the shoreline an improvement to watching her read. At least we are moving.

She runs for half an hour, at a speed faster than the sea turtle pace usual for fivetoes. Then she slows to a stop at a jagged rock, half-submerged in the ocean. I groan quietly and contemplate leaving. From experience, I know she’ll climb to the top of her rock and dream away. I start backing off, but when I’m some fifty feet away, I look back. Starra makes a pretty picture there, her silhouette perched high on the rock. Her long legs are tucked under her, and her head hangs back as she keeps her gaze on the stars above. If only she would let loose the heavy dark mane of hair she always twists up at the back of her neck, she would truly look like a mermaid risen from the sea.

Something pulls me back to her. I can’t explain it, but I have a feeling trouble is lurking nearby, waiting to snatch her in its net.

My chicken feet make an about face and follow Starra home as she takes the shorter route through town.

Author Loren Secretts

Loren Secretts was raised in a book-filled home, in a sleepy east coast suburb of the US. These factors are undoubtedly responsible for her early design of a number of exciting imaginary worlds that she could escape to from time to time during her childhood.
In her teen years, between schoolwork and lending an ear to her friends, Loren had less opportunity to go AWOL. Instead, her experience as a confidant to others inspired her to major in psychology in college and earn her M.A. in the field on the west coast.
As an adult, Loren has found fulfillment in her work with children and families for more than a decade. Her passion for writing was revived when she discovered that she enjoyed delving into the human psyche to write psychological reports.
But clients' reports are safe with Loren, who guards secrets fastidiously. Indeed, one of her aspirations is to work as a psychotherapist for the CIA, but since she now lives with her family in Canada, that dream will have to await its turn…

#32: Spun - Catherine McKenzie (With #Giveaway)

In this funny and touching novella, bestselling author Catherine McKenzie returns to the story of Amber Sheppard, It Girl and celebrity train wreck from McKenzie’s reader-favourite novel, Spin.
Life has been rough for starlet Amber since leaving rehab. She’s been two years sober, but no one seems to believe her -- not the gossip media, not casting agents, and most certainly not her spotlight-loving parents. With her friendships ruined by betrayal and her career at a standstill, Amber’s just trying to get her life back on track. It doesn’t help that her former love, movie star Connor Parks, keeps trying to draw Amber back in, not just to their relationship but to his hard-partying ways. One fateful night, Amber breaks down and agrees to join him on board his private jet as it readies for take-off -- a decision that will change her life forever and expose her to a whole new level of scrutiny and heartbreak.

My review for Spin

Other Books I've Reviewed:
My review for Forgotten
My review for Hidden

REVIEW:
I really liked Spin. In fact, I couldn't wait to read more. The Spun comes out, this lil novella. I thought it would be about Kate, but it wasn't. This time you got a glimpse into the life of a celebrity. And not just any celebrity either. One that has lots to prove and the world to prove it to. Kudos to Amber for getting the point across and to Catherine for the short, yet, powerful story.
The only sad part for me was the ending. I really hope another story comes from this. Give us more about Olivia and the baby now, pretty please?
Great writing! It feels so real to read it. You can actually imagine this stuff happening. BAH! It probably is!
If you haven't read any of Catherine's books, I really don't know what you are waiting for.

#Giveaway: Monday, Monday - Elizabeth Crook

In this gripping, emotionally charged novel, a tragedy in Texas changes the course of three lives.
On an oppressively hot Monday in August of 1966, a student and former marine named Charles Whitman hauled a footlocker of guns to the top of the University of Texas tower and began firing on pedestrians below. Before it was over, sixteen people had been killed and thirty-two wounded. It was the first mass shooting of civilians on a campus in American history.
Monday, Monday follows three students caught up in the massacre: Shelly, who leaves her math class and walks directly into the path of the bullets, and two cousins, Wyatt and Jack, who heroically rush from their classrooms to help the victims. On this searing day, a relationship begins that will eventually entangle these three young people in a forbidden love affair, an illicit pregnancy, and a vow of secrecy that will span forty years. Reunited decades after the tragedy, they will be forced to confront the event that changed their lives and that has silently and persistently ruled the lives of their children.
With electrifying storytelling and the powerful sense of destiny found in Ann Patchett's Bel Canto, and with the epic sweep of Jess Walter's Beautiful Ruins, Elizabeth Crook's Monday, Monday explores the ways in which we sustain ourselves and one another when the unthinkable happens. At its core, it is the story of a woman determined to make peace with herself, with the people she loves, and with a history that will not let her go. A humane treatment of a national tragedy, it marks a generous and thrilling new direction for a gifted American writer.

Nurse Kell holds my arm as we walk to the dining room, and the moving around actually helps me wake up a little. I try to think back on where the day went, but it's all a blur.

#FVMDGG #Giveaway: Just Can't Get Enough Billionaires

As a mom, a good way to pamper yourself can often be found while lounging on the sofa with a good book and a box of chocolates.
And that is exactly what I got in store for you today, courtesy of Harlequin Books.
First let's see what books we have.

Estranged from his adoptive father, Sage Lassiter earned his own billions. But when J.D. Lassiter leaves a fortune to his private nurse in his will and cheats his own daughter of her rightful inheritance…Sage is enraged, to say the least. He's sure nurse Colleen Falkner isn't the innocent she appears. And he's willing to go to any lengths to expose her…even seduction.

But using sex—crazed, incredible sex—to find out what she knows could backfire. Because Colleen is not what Sage expected. And like it or not, she's about to demolish all the barriers he's carefully constructed around his heart.

Oil magnate Sakis Pantelides always gets what he wants—after all, he's drop-dead gorgeous, powerful and wealthy beyond words. But the one thing he can't have is his stunning assistant, Brianna Moneypenny—because she's the only woman this cynical Greek can trust.

But when an international crisis throws them together 24/7, intriguingly buttoned-up Brianna reveals a sensual hunger that rivals his own, and he realizes just what he's been denying himself for so long. But when his perfect PA's secret is discovered, will he pay the price for taking what he wants?

Charged with the care of the newly orphaned heir to the Kardana throne, nanny Katrina Vicente finds herself faced with an even more formidable task—working alongside the boy's uncle, the devastatingly handsome Prince Julian, the prince regent.

Desperate to keep the secrets of her past under lock and key, getting involved with a prince is the last thing Katrina needs, particularly with the world watching. But it's hard to ignore their instant chemistry—especially after one stolen kiss! Could her royal assignment be about to transform into the most magical of fairy tales?

REVIEW:
Remember when you would come home from school and watch the 'After-School Special'? It was always a wholesome movie, perfect for impressionable young minds to watch. That is exactly what crossed my mind while I was watching this film.
Basically it's about a girl who finds life is not what she thought it was. It leads her to rediscover herself and see what things are not really any different than they were before. The same people and family in her life still love her and that's really all that matters.
So, it's not a movie that will win Oscar's in my opinion, but you can be sure knowing you and your family are watching a good movie, filled with great moral content and values.
