I've got the children to tend
The clothes to mend
The floor to mop
The food to shop
Then the chicken to fry
The baby to dry
I got company to feed
The garden to weed
I've got shirts to press
The tots to dress
The can to be cut
I gotta clean up this hut
Then see about the sick
And the cotton to pick.
Shine on me, sunshine
Rain on me, rain
Fall softly, dewdrops
And cool my brow again.
Storm, blow me from here
With your fiercest wind
Let me float across the sky
'Til I can rest again.
Fall gently, snowflakes
Cover me with white
Cold icy kisses and
Let me rest tonight.
Sun, rain, curving sky
Mountain, oceans, leaf and stone
Star shine, moon glow
You're all that I can call my own.

ReplyDeleteHi Freda ~~ I like your topic, I almost used it myself. Trouble was that I had to do some research, there is a reporter in Aussie Land who says that certain tasks, perhaps what you listed, are woman's work. Mrs. Jim read it for me on Daily Mail (London) but I didn't have time to go document it for me. Oh well, you did just fine.
ReplyDeleteFly away, escape from it all. For sure if I were the lady in your beginning I would want to fly to some place blissful.
I do know that when I worked in the watch factory I had to bump a lady on a machine where she would drill two holes into a watch piece. I could never make my quota so the other ladies would run my machine at lunch time for me so that my quota was met. Everyone making quota helped for the group bonus.
Finally an opening came for me to run the automatic screw machines. I was soooo happy to be away from that drilling job.
I SWEAR IT WAS JOB MEANT FOR WOMEN.
..
I love the imagery in that poem!
ReplyDeleteHer list is perfect as is her poetic style♪ http://lauriekazmierczak.com/walnut-whirl/
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful poem. Thanks for sharing it. I can certainly relate to the never-ending woman's work.
