H Is For Hobbies

I would give the you the grand tour of my home, but it's not that grand. I live in a 3 bedroom apartment that is 1800 sq ft, in an inner core of a city. It would be over quick, so no, I decided against it.
Hamilton, Ontario, is the city I call home, and is also my birthplace. Also not my choice of things to hammer on about.
No, today I chose to divulge the inner loves of Freda. My hobbies. Yes, I have a few. Hopefully you will share a love for some or all of them.
My first go-to hobby is one that you all already know.... books.
Here are a few I won recently that I can't wait to dig into. Tour books come first though, so sometimes the reading I really want to do taunts me from a nearby shelf. These are a few of those that call softly to me.... Have you read any of them? What are your thoughts?
Secondly, I always travel with a pen and paper to write down poetry as it comes. Just today I wrote a poem, Missing You, and posted it to my Facebook. It is about my dad who is in heaven. July 15, it will be 5 years.
I also always have my camera with me. Okay, I fibbed a little there.... I always have two cameras with me.
This is my main squeeze, Nikon. It's cool as it says and takes pretty good pics. I also take my trusty Sony with me as a backup. I had my battery drain once and learned my lesson. It was during a harvest moon. That is where it is amber, orange or red in color, and not a shot you want to miss. Just for my own sanity, I make sure to grab both when going somewhere now. Here is a shameless plug for my photography blog, Day One. Hope to see you there!
Lastly, I am an outdoorsy nature girl who refuses to leave the city. What's a girl to do with a natural Catch 22?? Hiking.
Here in my city we have no shortage of hiking paths or places you can get a good nature walk. They are taken care of by the city and maintained by places like the Botanical Gardens, such as this one pictured above. It is from one of my favorite areas in the Botanical Gardens. It takes you to a footbridge. On this footbridge, you walk through a bird reserve. If you happen to have unsalted sunflower seeds on you, you will be lucky enough to have Downey Woodpeckers and Chickadees come and take seed right from your hand.
I have experienced this so many times and it never grows old!
This is a moment to cherish. Yes, that is my hand!!!
Something is so beautiful about seeing wildlife in their own habitat. Swans surround that area too. They are all properly taken care of, monitored and tagged.
This kind of stuff makes the walk worth every moment of my time. I thought at one point this swan was going to poke me in the leg. I was snapping shots from the very next rock, and of course, had my legs hanging over the edge. Lucky me, I wasn't mistaken for food.
So these are a few of my favorite things....
Great. Now Julie Andrews is singing in my head. GAWWWWWWWWWD! HELP!!!

What are some of your favorite hobbies??

  7. I most certainly would love those birds feeding from my hand! :) Long time ago I had a chickadee take suet from my hand during a bad patch of winter and I'll never forget it. Magic :)

  9. I like your hobbies, Freda. I like books but I don't get many read. Mrs. Jim likes books and she reads more. She collects cook books and reads them all. But she doesn't cook much.

My hobbies? Ham Radio, travel, golf, and blogging come first. There are others too.

REVIEW:
Such great animation!
There was always something going on in this movie. Even though it was a story I have seen played out a million times and a million different ways, they all are different too. This had more of a story. It was very magical and is definitely fun for the whole family.
Want to point out, Max, the dog, stole the show for me. He is so adorable, even if animation. Such a good dog.
This is one of those Christmas movies that you really can enjoy all year round. It has enough laughs, fun and morals to be played anytime. Plus there is nothing wrong with Christmas cheer in February.

#ChristmasInJuly #Win A Onesie Or Pajamas Of Your Choice! (US/CDN)

The most wonderful time of the year is back, (a little early)! It's Christmas in July!! You too can celebrate with a wonderful gift right here. UglyChristmasSweater.com has the funniest, traditional and branded goodies on the planet! Here is a sneak peek at a couple of things I personally love on their site.

Last year, I reviewed one of the sweaters. You can view that post here. It is easily my favorite holiday sweater. It's so warm and I love the quality of it. This year, I was asked if I wanted a onesie or pajamas to check out. You know I had to jump at the chance, knowing what great quality clothing they have.

I got the Grinch on my onesie! I got an extra large size, and before you go crazy knowing that is big for me, I don't like my pjs to be tight and constricting. I always go a size up on my night clothes. I must have been traumatized in a past life.... These Grinch pajamas are soooooo soft and comfortable. The best part is that it's A/C season so I can actually wher…
