Magneta Lane - Witchrock

Magneta Lane is an all female band with a punk-like sound. In the style of Joan Jett, Chrissie Hynde, and Debbie Harry, these ladies know how to rock out and are doing so on their new album, Witchrock, is released on February 12.

Magneta Lane was formed in Toronto in 2003. Paper Bag records issued their first release, The Constant Lover, in 2004.

After much touring in Canada and the United States, the band, at a very young age, became slightly burnt out. The girls then got a new manager and a chance meeting with some powerful music executives, which led to renewed creative energies. Which brings us back to Witchrock.

 I was sent these four tracks from the album to listen to. I had not heard of Magneta Lane before so was excited to learn of local talent. 

 I was blown away from the first track I played, Burn. Quickly I realized this was my kind of music, being the HUGE punk fan that I am. The fast beat and drumming in the background reminded me of a female version of The Strokes. Listening to the other tracks, my opinion didn't sway but grew stronger. I hear the punk inspiration clearly and yet in a modern way. 

 So in the end I have to admit I am a new fan. I look forward to these ladies putting out more music and touring again. They are definitely up my alley!
