#9: Fifty Shades of Grey - E.L. James

(Affiliate link)

When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too—but on his own terms.

Shocked yet thrilled by Grey’s singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success—his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family—Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a daring, passionately physical affair, Ana discovers Christian Grey’s secrets and explores her own dark desires.

Erotic, amusing, and deeply moving, the Fifty Shades Trilogy is a tale that will obsess you, possess you, and stay with you forever.

Review:
If you're on my Facebook, you'll already know that I have Ryan Reynolds picked out as Mr. Grey.
*Pause for swooning*
Now, for all the women out there that haven't read it yet, I have to ask you why??? Were you like me and thought it was too much for you? Well, that's judging a book by its' cover at its finest, I think.... especially now.
Unless you are a prude, most of the stuff in the book you probably do in the privacy of your home. The rest is fantasy, much like ogres and fairies, yet not as frightful. Stories are supposed to be about imagination and fantasy. At least, the good ones anyway.....
The story does have graphic sex scenes, whoopdie doo! It's also a great story about two characters, Mr. Grey and Miss Steele, and their "Basic Instinct" -like attraction.
So please, don't think it's some book of debauchery, though that is involved, but more of a mind game.
Give it a chance.

  1. I also enjoyed the book, read it last year while on a camping trip and thought it was a fun summer read! Started the second book but didn't finish it. Felt it was just more of the same and a bastardization of the first in the series. Sometimes more is not necessarily better :)

  2. I have not read the Grey books yet but they are on my list. And I am totally with you about Ryan Reynolds! Swoon squared.

  3. I haven't read the 50 Shades trilogy yet. I have read both rave and negative reviews, especially how badly written it is. I do want to read the books and form my own opinion.

  4. I haven't read it yet simply because I began it and couldn't get past the simplistic writing. Also, this is Twilight fan fiction and I couldn't stand Twilight so it is not surprising I don't like this either. It has nothing to do with the erotic part, but with the writing itself. I am glad you liked it though! I have heard Ian Somerhalder for the part of Christian Grey, is Ryan Reynolds in the running or is it because you pictured him while reading it? :D

    1. R.R. is just my preference. Though I.S. is a juicy thought too.
