My Opinion:
The Realm of the Lost was an interesting take on death and the after-life. In the story there is three realms. The focus of the story is on one of those three and that is the Realm of the Lost, although the story also stems around Kat/Kathleen. She ends up where she shouldn't be, meet colorful people and gets herself back home. It was quite a good hour's worth of entertainment. It flowed really fast for so few pages, and it was good, solid writing. People looking for a quick read that is something a little different, or maybe to get you out of that slump, should get a copy.
I don't think it's appropriate for middle graders, though maybe it's just the sensitive issue of death and the after-life or lack thereof, that young adult would be more age appropriate.
