For a moment, Darcy almost convinced herself the last twelve hours didn't happen. As image after image hits her, the sinking realization of all she's lost overwhelms her and all she can think of is to run. Run far away where her shame can't find her, and most of all, where she'll never have to see the look of blame in Mason's eyes. Feeling like a complete failure, she scrambles to make plans. But the voice of her mate-to-be penetrates her frantic thoughts, asking for the chance to show her just how much she is loved.
It hurts Mason deeply to hear Darcy's thoughts, knowing the events of the previous night have completely rattled her. Grieving over the death of his beloved sister Jasmine, Mason knows he has to act fast. Darcy is all he's ever wanted and the idea of life without her is unacceptable. Armed with his unswerving love and wolfish charm, he sets out to remind her just how valuable she is and why there is no one else for him but her.
Can Darcy let go of the shame of failure consuming her or will Mason convince her that after all is said and done, she truly is... cherished?

A Post from Belinda Boring:
Werewolves – Shudder or Swoon?
As a lover of the paranormal, Halloween is one of my favorite holidays of the year. Everywhere you turn, you can find vampires, witches, ghosts and of course, it’s the perfect opportunity to gorge yourself on candy. I recently moved into a new home and I’m eagerly looking forward to decorating. Can you imagine pulling up to my house and finding a cute sign outside welcoming you?
Since releasing The Mystic Wolves series, I’ve been particularly excited to get something wolfish, a reminder of Mason and Darcy. *Insert frustration here* I recently went to a store and wandered through the different aisles and was so disappointed. Is it just me being an avid romance reader but do the wolves in some of our favorite series really look like this?
Can you imagine coming home and snuggling up to that? As I wrote scenes from Cherished, those tender moments between Darcy and Mason which even had me swooning, this was not what I had in mind. I think if Mason did look like this, all bets would be off and the anticipated mating ritual would be forever cancelled. No, when I think werewolf, in particular my Alpha, this is what I have in mind.
Now this is what I call sexy and the reason why I tell Darcy why she’s incredibly lucky. There are no hideous facial features or grotesque body parts, just glorious muscles and a well-toned body. (Come on, which would you pick?) Even turned, Mason wouldn’t look like this. Instead he would have the sleek body of a black wolf, one of grace and power. What kind of image is being projected to future romance readers if when they read the word “werewolf”, they shriek and run to hide? See why I’m frustrated?
The reality of it is I doubt next Halloween I’ll walk into the local Walmart and find a row of “sexy Alpha” masks. A girl can wish but it’s highly unlikely. Instead, I’ll grunt and roll my eyes, discretely trying to hide them behind the vampire masks. (Don’t even get me started on that, the vampires I read about do NOT have green skin. Sparkles maybe, but not green!) Meanwhile, I’ll keep writing the Mystic Wolves as I imagine them and keep the dream alive. *smiles* No need to thank me … happy drooling everyone!

My Opinion:
This is not a stand alone novella. You really need to read the first book or you will be lost.
Now I really enjoyed the fierce nature of the beast in the first book, and the nature was ever present in this one as well. When they had the initial start in the forest scene, wow!
I also loved the chemistry between Darcy and Mason. You just know they are made for one another.
I wasn't crazy about the pity party though. I felt it made Mason look a little weak. I like a sensitive guy, but when is it whiny?
All in all, a delightful second in the series. I am looking forward to the next though, as it seems to be where power comes in.
Recommend? Yes, but you MUST read the first novella.

I absolutely loved "Mercy" and I can't wait to read "Cherished"
ReplyDeleteI've read Without Mercy and really enjoyed Belinda's debut. I swoon for werewolves because they are usually written as really sexy and hot. I love the "mate for life" thing too. Would love to read Cherished!
