Author Bio:
Nat Gertler is a comics guy, but not just a comics guy. Sure, he has a collection of over 1000 Peanuts and Peanuts-related books, and runs blog.AAUGH.com for Peanuts book fans. And yes, he's the publisher of the About Comics line and the the co-author of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Creating a Graphic Novel. And it's true he's the creator of Licensable BearTM. But Nat was raised on a diet of Asimov and Ellery Queen, and so likes books in general. He has contributed to everything from real estate guides to horror anthologies to computer how-to books. Nat earned his BA from Simon's Rock College at age 18, and now lives with Dr. Lara Gertler and their two children in Camarillo, CA.

My Opinion:
This is one of my favorite picture books for so many reasons, the first being nostalgia. I have loved Snoopy, Charlie Brown and Schroeder my whole life plus the rest of the gang too, so seeing this book immediately appealed to my curiosity. I didn't think there was much I could learn about it, and after reading it I was very wrong.
I learned a lot not only about the comic strip and its characters, but about the man who drew it all, Mr. Schultz. He was very comedic in his natural way, and just having conversations or writing from him, you would laugh. He had a deep love for his family, and even more so than his work. With as many comics as he pumps out, I would figure him a man never at home, or at least unavailable, and again not so.
There is so much more, but I already blabbed too much and may have spoiled something. I apologize ahead of time, this book just made me excited.
Definitely one to get, for the kid in all of us.

Amazing...who would've thought that there is more to learn from a book of comics. I may have to look for it and peruse the pages.
ReplyDeleteI should get this one. My hubby is a big fan!
ReplyDeleteAww, snoopy! I bet my husband would enjoy this.
ReplyDeleteI knew Snoopy and the gang had been around for a long time but didn't realize it was that long. I have been a fan as long as I can remember. This sounds like a great book.
