Synopsis:
An angry rebel, John dropped out of school and enlisted in the Army, not knowing what else to do with his life - until he meets Savannah, the girl of his dreams. Their mutual attraction quickly grows into the kind of love that leaves Savannah waiting for John to finish his tour of duty, and John wanting to settle down with the woman who has captured his heart.
But 9/11 changes everything. John feels it is his duty to re-enlist. And sadly, the long separation finds Savannah falling in love with someone else. "Dear John," the letter read, and with those two words, a heart was broken and two lives were changed forever. Returning home, John must come to grips with the fact that Savannah, now married, is still his true love - and face the hardest decision of his life.

My Opinion:
I can't wait to see the movie after listening to this audiobook. I just hope it is as good as the original story.
Right from the very beginning of the story, you can tell there is something special about the two main characters, and their relationship. I especially love the effect Savannah has on John. His entire character seems to calm around her, including his manners and he cusses less.
I don't care for the accent the narrator chose to use for Savannah, though I find her character to be quite funny. After much thought, I wonder if the crazy accent had anything to do with that....
There is some real and beautiful emotion in this book, that any reader will appreciate. I thought it was a fantastic book!
Definitely a recommendation!

Nicholas Sparks is one author I've never read. I just picture his books as over emotional, just not for me. Of course, I know I shouldn't judge without having ever read them, but there you have it.
ReplyDeleteI have seen the movie and it was awesome!
ReplyDeleteLike Carol I'm not much of a Nicholas Sparks fan but glad you enjoyed the book.
